Learning from each other

I learn a lot talking with my grandchildren. It might take a minute to get on the same level, but when I really listen and say things a different way, pretty soon we're speaking the same language and having a wonderful time together. Sometimes they see the world in ways I hadn't considered, and other times I can share things that help them understand a little better. It reminds me that good communication isn't about being the smartest person in the room. It's about being willing to meet people where they are. That's what our town could use more of, just listening to each other and learning from one another. It's the simple stuff really, but it makes all the difference.
Our community will all benefit when our leaders take the time to truly hear what folks are saying and talk to people in ways they can understand. We can work things out if we just sit down, listen to each other, and build something together. Not every disagreement needs to be a fight, and not every difference of opinion means someone has to lose. I'm looking forward to hearing from as many of you as I can during this campaign, so I can really understand where you're coming from. That's the only way we'll build something that works for everyone.
